Power steering fluid leak- repair or replace?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Have just noticed that one of my steering gaiters is leaking fluid.  Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the faulty seal with the steering rack on the car?

Failing this, has anyone attempted a DIY steering rack replacement and can comment on the difficulty involved?

Car is an 1.9SDI

Thanks in advance for replies!

im sure you could get a seal to replace the damaged one fairly easily ... but .... its quite common for the chrome on the tubes that run through the seal to rust which damages the seal so.... you could end up in the same situation after a couple of weeks .....

some one mentioned a place on a previous thread that do an exchange unit under £200 and it shouldnt be too bad to fit ....

Steering racks are easy to fit! Takes about an hour in total to remove mate :) just remember you need your car tracked too after you have another fitted.
