Help ! :( Octy owner in distress.

Featured Replies

Desperately hopeing someone can help me . . . I'm on holiday in weymouth and my car has gone into limp mode. The DPF light came in yesterday and today it's started 'limping' :(

Can anyone do a forced regen on my 07' octy VRS ? Or know anywhere that can ?? It's a 90mile journey home and at 30 mph It could be a nightmare :(

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give ! :)

Limp home mode doesn't affect the speed, just the RPM so you should be able to get home OK, albeit a little more sedately than normal.

If it's gone into limp home mode the day after seeing the DPF light then it is likely to be a faulty sensor so a forced regen won't help.

Ok thanks, I was hoping to find someone local who would be able to do a forced regen. Since the light went on I'd done a few 'run around' miles as there aren't any motorways to burn it off. If limp mode doesnt affect speed, could I do a regen by driving it ? or once the engine light is on has it gone past the point of no return ?? Thanks again for any help ?

There are a number of different light combinations (DPF, EML & glowplug) but limp-home mode means you won't be able to regen the DPF yourself without VCDS or a dealer.

For it to go into limp home mode so soon after the appearance of the DPF light suggests that it will need more than just a forced regen.

I'd have a tenner on the gas pressure sensor having failed, if it has "Made in US" written on the back then they are a known weak point. When they fail, or begin to fail they send false signals to the DPF preventing it from operating properly and therefore not regenerating correctly.

Have you got breakdown? You could try disconnecting the battery to try and reset the error.

Thankyou for all the advice. I drove it to the main dealer in Yovil, and thankfully the regen worked. At first he said it was too blocked to be affective, as it was reading 60.1mg and the max it would be affective with was 60mg. At the prospect (and cost) of a new filter, I convinced him to try the regen first, and it worked. Although the engineer did say it was likely that the pressure sensor was probably acting up. So next step will be to look into getting it removed altogether, from what I can gather its a far more sensible investment.

In terms of warning lights, it showed the DPF, then went into limp mode with a flashing glow coil, and then a few miles later the EML came on also.

Not sure if that tells you anything ??

But I'm on the road again, fingers crossed it stays that way. Thanks again for the help ! :)

Glad you are up and running again!

The light sequence was different to mine. I just got the EML when my gas pressure sensor started playing up.

I take it there were no fault codes when the dealer plugged-in?

He didn't tell me if there were. The engineer did say it was likely to be a recurring fault, likely to be caused by the presure sensor. I've checked mine and it says 'made in Malaysia'.

But I figured I was better to take the money I would spend on a new sensor and put it towards a full removal and remap.

I'll just have to be quicker to give it a blast as soon as the light comes on untill it's done. :)

A 2007 vRS with the 'Made in Malaysia' gas pressure sensor means that it has had a new sensor in the past.

This means the car has suffered DPF related issues before.

I'm with you, by the time you've spent the £150+ for a new sensor and fitting you may as well get it removed and the sensors coded out.

Be warned though, a professional DPF removal requires the sensor to still work, even though they are coded out so if the sensor is randomly faulty you might have to still replace it...
