So here's an interesting one...

 

Was on business in Birmingham today, and it was a hot and sunny day.  While driving back to Manchester in the mid-afternoon, I noticed that the aircon seemed to be getting less and less effective, i.e. I was getting warmer not cooler.

 

I glanced at the ambient temperature display on the Maxidot display (also displayed on the climatronic panel) and it read 15 degress.  A few minutes later it was 14, then 13, then 12.  By the time I reached Manchester the temperture display was reading -30 C and seemed to have stabilised.  Now I know it's grim up north, but even that's stretching the bounds of believability.

 

The falling display seems to have persuaded the climatronic that it didn't need to cool the incoming air - fair enough I guess.

 

So, has anyone seen this sort of behaviour before, and any ideas what the cause could be?

 

I have an '05 1.9 TDI Elegance.

I think its behind the little grill on the passenger side of the front bumper.
