56plate vrs stream to kenwood dnx520vbt?

Featured Replies

Anyone know if the kenwood dnx520vbt would work ok? I have a stream mp3 at the moment and looking for a replacement with sat nav . Also will I still get the parking sensor display?

Yes, I believe it should work fine as its approved by vag anyway. Yes parking sensors do display.

I think it might only work with the FL models ( for integration with the aircon/multi function wheel/parking sensors) I would contact them before purchasing.

Well it's either the kenwood or tempted to try the cheaper ans620 from icebox auto which is ment to be able to do pc and climate.....

In theory this is a good replacement unit, has all the bells and whistles you'd need and according to the box is fully compatible with everything in this model of Octavia. However, my experience of fitting one :

1. The radio was awful - wouldn't work for toffee, signal kept dropping out and static on any channel driving past a bush or a tree!

2. Satnav voice gargled away instead of being very clear

3. Power source had to be operated manually (i.e. not 'connected to your ignition so it would switch off when the car was off).

4. The actual satnav mapping worked well.

5. USB read everything so long as nothing but mp3 files were on the stick. Put a movie format on it and it wouldn't read anything, just froze.

6. The sound was pretty decent even out of the standard speakers.

My local Skoda dealer couldn't have been more helpful and tried everything they could think of. Only after phoning around a few contacts in the VAG group did we eventually find out that there are apparently massive compatibility problems with this unit and the MkII Octavia - the quote was "sometimes it works out the box, other times forget it". I would be pretty open minded about the successful fitting of this unit despite any promises from a dealer!

Is this the kenwood or ans unit u r talking about

i have the kenwood vbt520 in mine , and cant fault it the unit does everything  and has been faultless ,and looks oem when fitted.

it is true the radio isnt the best reception wise but not sure if its down to the oem aerial or amp, but i rarely use the radio so havent bothered looking into it.

Alternatively, my Columbus has been spot on so far (fitted in a similar vintage car). My choice was the Columbus, the Kenwood or I think Pioneer do a VAG compatible one too. In the end I went Columbus as one popped up cheap near me from a lad who was taking his Fabia II vRS back to standard.

Sorry, forgot to mention - it was the Kenwood dnx520vbt I had trouble with. Had a new aerial fitted, didn't improve reception one bit. Pretty disappointed with the whole set up in the MKII as there seem to be a lot of variances depending on which model you have and no way of knowing if you've got a good one or not!  Mine is a 56 plate Octavia vRS - according to Skoda UK records it's compatible with anything and everything but the reality is very different.

Seems strange when I had no issues with my 10yr old Honda Civic - it would work using a coat hanger for an aerial!  However, as I said, you might be alright - the bugbear is having to fit the unit to then find out if it was OK.

Do DNS520VBT displays information about the climate and parking sensor for Skoda Superb 2011th?
