Windows 8

Is it possible to block unwanted mail, On XP I could block mail which I did not wish to receive. I have looked and tried but don't know where to go. Thanks in advance Chris.

I'm sure windows mail has a junk mail filter.  It did in win 7, but I'm using Outlook on my Win8 machine

I use a 3rd party program called "Mailwasher", last time I checked there was a free version - limited to one email address.

However there is still an old 2.2Beta floating around that is free, handles multiple accounts and works with Win 7.

You can block specific email address's OR entire domains, or set keyword lists, blacklist and white lists.

Be careful though, I set the spam controls too tough once and it auto deleted everything for several hours!!!

As a bonus, you can view any suspect email as a text only file, and it doesnt download  anything except the header from the email server, so it is handy when you are mobile and on a restricted bandwidth allowance.

Once you have decided what to keep, it deletes/bounces the rest and fires up your usual email program to download what is left.

Bounces are useless unless instantly done.  A bounce a day or hours later screams "anti-spam software, live email address" to the spammer.  The apps even give away what software they are in the return headers.

Spamcop's hosted mail service is much better

Spam blockers, black list/white list etc are functions of your mail client and/or 3rd party applications rather than built into your o/s.

right-click the email you don't want. then down the bottom of the screen, click 'junk'. I think its towards the right.
