1.6mpi octavia issues, any ideas?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, new member here but visited quite a few times before and decided to take the plunge! On the verge of getting rid of my 1.6mpi octavia unless I get these faults sorted. So far 2 garages are scratching there heads!

First is the ever common blower resister going. Easy fix you'd think...4th resister later and a new motor it's still burning out! Read the fan could be gunked up which may be the cause of extra resistance.

Second issue is a juddering under normal acceleration. Seems worst about 2.5k revs and really feels like the engine is hesitating/struggling.

Bought it with part service history (guy who had it for 5 years before me didn't spend a bean on it I've later discovered, I've already repaired loads of bodged bits). Regarding the juddering my usual garage were a little stumped. They even sent the ECU off to be diagnosed and came back perfect. Few minor leaks and imperfections have already been ironed out but not much luck in overall performance. Acceleration and mpg is generally fine when it hasn't got a case of the wobbles, when it has it drives me nuts!

Anyone had similar issues? On the verge of just part ex-ing but would rather sell as mechanically sound in the new year with a fresh mot or even keep it another year or so.

Cheers,

Tom

Quick update, coil pack was replaced today, plugs checked over (look fine). Throttle body is spotless but car still judders on acceleration, especially when accelerating lightly. :(

You seem to have covered the usual ignition/fuel potential gremlins.  Could it be a transmission/engine-mounts problem?

Possibly, did my research here doing the easy bits before asking so ticked off the common bits. For the sake of £50 its going into Skoda tomorrow for them to diagnose. Going to visit in laws over the weekend driving glossop-Norfolk so may have to let them have it for the weekend and try blag a courtesy car! Really want to try our the 1.8tsi and been looking at lease deals too anyway.
