left doors locked

Featured Replies

Hallo everybody

after many small issues solved with the help of this forum, I am now stuck with the 2 left doors locked, no way of opening them, and the rear left window closed as well. I thought it was another consequence of the infamous water ingress (already been there successfully a couple of years ago), I have checked the wiring (quite difficult with the door locked) but I have found nothing evidently wrong.

It started first with the window, then the front door, at the beginning I was able to open it somehow and then not anymore, then the rear door.

Any idea anyone?

Many thanks

This will be a broken wire in the rubber boot across the door hinge. If the red/black power feed wire breaks, neither the lock or the window will work on that door. When you get it apart (!) it's easy to bypass the broken wire.

Preventative maintenance (again - thanks, VAG for a crappy design). Pull back the boot on each door annually and spray the wires with silicone spray. This will ensure the wires slide over each other instead of kinking as the door is moved.

thanks rotodiesel,

I would add some more symptoms to make the picture more complete:

- no flashing lights when I lock the car with the remote key

- no buzzing sound if I leave the lights on

- the rear right door does not lock, unless I put the pin manually down

on top of the already mentioned:

- left front and rear door locked

- left rear window not working (closed)

how do you think I can open the door? It is possible without making too much damage?

Hi Robelia,

Can't help you with your problems mate, but after my water ingress problem I have been left unable to unlock my rear driver's door, the window still works.  I will watch this thread to see if anyone else can help.

My question to the thread is will this door not opening cause an MOT failure?

Thanks Wooly
