Ecu coding places

Featured Replies

I've got another ecu for my car as mine has had it

is there anywhere I can get the new one coded to my car this week as I need my car for next weekend I'm going away

I know I ask this a lot on various threads, but do you own/have access to vagcom?

I got the software I can borrow my mates lead

You'll need the immobiliser codes for both ECUs.

I've put a second hand ECU on an audi before without changing immo codes.

I'll get vagcom plugged into mine later and remember what I done

This worked on an Audi A4, perhaps they use a different immo version?

If it shows BOTH the immo-ID and VIN at the cluster then it's immo-3.

Is you old ecu totally dead ?

If so, chances are your looking at dealer only, unless you know someone that can remove the immo chip from your old ecu and read the info from it.

Its quite easy getting the pin (skc) for the old ecu because it'll also be in the cluster. My guess the problem will be is getting the pin from the new ecu.

Yes but vagcom won't tell you the skc so if you don't have it, things get harder.

Yes vagcom can't but there are other bits of software that can get the skc from the cluster and not having to take the immo out of ecu. The problem will be getting skc out of the new ecu because that doesn't have a cluster to get skc out of.

It's very easy to get the info from the immo chip if you have a bench harness.

You can just read it from the 1 ecu and write it into the other.

But has to be done on the bench, as you need to do it in bootmode.

I've no idea when comes to a bench harness to be honest.I was just saying it'll be easier to get pin from the old ecu rather than the new one.Anyway the op should probably try a good autolocksmith. They might be able to code the new ecu to the car and probably be cheaper than a main dealer.

This is the procedure for immo3, taken fro the rosstech website. Since the OP has a MK1 vRS then it will be immo3.

You'll still need to find a method to copy the adaptions from the old ECU to the new one otherwise you'll most likely end up with the check engine light and a whole host of warning lights for kit that is missing in your car, or find things that don't work because the replacement ECU has that feature disabled.

  • The REPLACEMENT (USED) ECU is installed in the car.
  • Battery voltage at least 12.5 V.
  • All relevant coding and adaptation values have been transferred from the ORIGINAL (OLD) ECU to the REPLACEMENT (USED) ECU.
  • Make sure to have BOTH PIN's, from the ORIGINAL (OLD) and the REPLACEMENT (USED) ECU.
  • Make sure to have the Radio Code (for factory radios only).

For the following procedure, use the PIN of the REPLACEMENT (USED) ECU.

  • 4-digit PIN
    • The PIN needs to be entered as 5-digit number in the New Value box. For example, if your PIN is 1234, enter 01234.

  • The values may change to "32000", this is normal

  • Switch OFF the ignition and let the car sit for ~1 minute, then switch ON the ignition again.
  • Verify that the REPLACEMENT (USED) ECU now shows the VIN and if supported IMMO-ID of the vehicle now.
  • Verify that the REPLACEMENT (USED) ECU has the same Coding as the original unit, or code it from scratch using the repair manual or coding chart in VCDS when applicable.

Yes you need both pins (skc) which is a pain in the arse to get.
