Another Lighting Problem

Featured Replies

Having owned my current car, a pre FL vRS TDi PD since July 2008, I now need an estate and have found a 2010 Octavia vRS petrol with DSG that I am interested in buying.  When I went to test drive the car, I tried lights and found that when the ignition is switched on, the LED DRLs are illuminated, but when the light switch is turned to the first position (side/park), the DRLs go off, but the side/park lights do not come on.  Turning the switch to the headlamp position does indeed swich on the headlamps as it should.  With the ignition off, using the indicator switch either to the left or right, doesn't illuminate the parking lights, as it does with my current car.

Is there an easy answer to this, or is there something more serious to be checked?  Your help would be appreciated.

The vRS doesn't have side lights, the bulbs are there but they don't work. The DRLs should dim and act as sidelights with the switch in the sidelight position.

Using the indicator illuminates the left or right dimmed DRLs and rear lights on mine.

It's not easy to spot the dimmed DRLs in daylight unless you look straight at them.

Think you may find it to be exactly as Budgie says...

I made this mistake with mine when I first got it, from sitting behind the wheel I thought my DRL's went out on switching side light switch "on" and no other lights came on in its place but on closer inspection the DRL's had dimmed.

Not sure about parking lights never tried them.

Go double check if you can, it is very deceptive on the DRL dimming bit.

Yeah I thought the same.

They dim quite a lot actually. I'm not sure why they didn't just remove the sidelight function and go straight to dipped. Also whilst I'm on the subject, why no bong when you leave the lights on when parking up in the evening? Bloody annoying when you realise the next morning you're driving around with lights on.

As above, in daylight the LED DRL's dimmed to side/parking light mode are very hard to see.

It actually helps to stand further away from the car and directly in front of it to see them.

The W5W side light bulbs in the headlight aren't wired up on the vRS, the bulbs are just there to fill the hole as the headlight is the same as non-vRS models.

Sorry about the delay in responding, but I am having difficulties with the Forum using my iMac at home, so have had to wait until I got back to work tonight to respond on a windows PC.  Thanks all for your replies - query answered and the car in question is now on my drive.

Just wondering if anyone has wired them up on their vRS. I am considering doing it. I like the way the DRL's function I just think it would be nice to have some white SMD LED bulbs in the top of the headlight that come on when I put the side lights on.

Any thoughts ??

+1 on getting the OEM side lights working, if possible?

Yes I am hoping one the people who has done it before will post a little tutorial and or pictures.

I hope I am not asking too much.

I have a pair of 1.5watt smd led's ready and waiting to be fitted which will compliment the DRLs very nicely.
