octavia I vrs SMF clutch questions

Featured Replies

i know many people have recommended the G60/VR6 conversion but just wondered if anybody used a standard SMF conversion kit. I get a whole kit (clutch kit & SMF) for £205 inc vat which is a good price

any feedback welcome

thanks in advance

I have a genuine G60 flywheel and a sash VR6 clutch and have done 20k and 3 trackdays with it, oh and ive also towed a 12ft car trailer with a polo on it and never had a problem.

Pedals so light aswell compaired to duel mass pedal, now doesnt hurt my knee when sat in traffic

Are the g60 flywheel and bolts taken from the 1.8 supercharged corrado and the clutch taken from mk3 golf vr6?

Basically yeah,

i went with a convertion kit off ebay from drive-tech

cost £150 and comes with 30k milles / 3 year warrenty

complete with

clutch plate

pressure plate

bearing

9kg fly wheel

and all bolts

clutch is very light compared to before, good bite and an absolute bargain

BobizYauncle I've searched eBay and can't find that seller. Are you running std power or mapped? £150 is a good price

I run a stage 1 map and a stage 2 clutch for mine. G60 OEM single mass flywheel with a custom clutch rated to 350lbft of torque. Got it from Competition Clutches in Leeds, great piece of kit. I gave them the Flywheel and they made the clutch to suit it. Ten thousand times better than the standard duel mass piece of poo.

Sounds good. Mine is remapped to 210bhp but ebay state the kit only tested on standard cars. I havent boited it yet as bedding it in 1st and a ball joint hanging out lol. Will be making a progress thread soon so will update then

Most on ebay state std power, so will be interesting to see how the less expensive kit deals with giving it a heavy foot :)

There was a kit for £130 but no supprise only had 12 months warrenty. I will update once bedded in

Look forward to reading the results

Might just be a old wives tale but thought running a SMF on a high mileage/old age gear box might ruin the box??

Dmf's were designed to absorb shock / impact from clutch / drive / power transfer taking that away and coverting to smf will put the gearbox under some added stress, but as long as its driven normally and not used for race or driving like its stolen should be ok. I suppose this goes for any car with any age / milage

Think it was mainly developed for the Diesels and was meant to give the driver a quieter driving experience or so im lead to believe
