alternative 16'' tyres?

Featured Replies

hello!

My octavia  estate1,9tdi 4x4 2006my currently have very worn 205-55-16 tyres and they gona need replacement.

Im not that big of a fan of 55 profile, so my question is is there an alternative size for 16'' tyres for my estate?

cheers

Jan

No without affecting your speedo and insurance, other option is to go down to 15" wheels

Or go up to 17/18" wheels

205/55 R16 here at least are the cheapest tires within the measurements normaly used on the octavia

top brand names round 70 to 80 euros down here

195/60-16 is only 1.3% larger overall diameter than your existing 205/55-16 tyres.  Won't be noticeable on speedo accuracy but would look slightly 'skinnier'.  Would improve ride quality but may also chance the 'feel' of the car although in normal driving I doubt if you would notice.  The size of wheels and tyres fitted to cars now are more for appearance than for engineering reasons.

Good morning all.

195-60-16 sounds like a good size. Out here roadsurfaces are quite "rough" and 55 profile tranfers alot of roadnoise inte to the car. Im looking för better comfort, and speeds rarely exeeds 110km/h more like 80-90km/h so we cant speak of loosing prestanda. :)

But an 195-60-16 fit i wheelwell without a problem?

Cheers

from spending time at tyre bays and selling tyres my self etc.

I don't know what its like in sweden. your best of going into a tyre place to find out.

205 55 16 would be a tyre sellers best selling size. as alot of cars come with these standard.

so is 195 65 15 and 225 45 17.

if you go down to 15 or up to 17 18. you have to change your wheels as you cannot fit a 15" tyre on a 16" wheel.

my advice would be to stick to 16" maybe try 205 60 16 -- have you tried different brands in 205 55 16?

you do not want to change to a tyre size which is not common as they wont be many to choose from and harder to get.
