using a second router to extend wireless network

I have plusnet fibre and the router is OK, dont really want to mess with it.

 

I have a second router which I have flashed with DD-WRT and want to try and extend the wireless range in a seemless sort of fashion, if possible.

 

Please dont take any of the above that I actually know what I am doing!

 

Also just let me know if its twaddle!

Just follow the how to on the DD-WRT website it really is simple. I am guessing you have a TG582 from Plusnet?

I flashed a netgear gateway the other day and extended the carp signal from a VM superhub.

After a reset of DD-WRT, the login gets reset to: user "root", password "admin".

Thanks for your help, I did it slightly different and wired it up as an AP instead, might be the same as you said but I liked the idea of it better.

No worries mate, I did my way so we had clear upstairs / downstairs access. You can also connect the DDwrt gateway via Ethernet as well so works with WIFI.

Can't beat good old cabling.....but thats only if you have a choice...... Making it into a wireless repeater could of been another option.

I agree about the cabling and I have done that instead of homeplugs, I wanted to expand the wireless range so I can listen to Tune In radio in my garage! Sad eh!!

Yes thanks used a Dlink router and put DD WRT on it and put the setting in and after a bit of trial and error it all works fine.

DD-WRT is good if supported by your gateway.

Just done this my self.

Main router>1st powerline plug>2nd powerline plug>second router

Turned off the DHCP server on second router and gave it a static IP and identical wifi settings of the first router apart from the channel
