Galaxy S4 - Camera Issue

Featured Replies

I preordered a Samsung Galaxy S4 and was lucky enough to get it on release day in the UK.  It has been a fantastic device and does everything I need it too (and more).

Recently though the camera decided to become upside down, e.g. Menu's appeared to drop from the top and rotating the phone back to the upright position didn't appear to do anything.

When I took a picture in portrait mode - the picture was upside down.  Auto-rotate didn't work either on the pictures.

I took it back to Voda and it came back 1 week later apparently fixed.  It wasn't.. so I took it back and 1 week later it came back reflashed to stock.

The camera worked for a while - after doing all the usual updates (not actually installing anything) the camera is foobar'd again - so I have to take it back to Voda tomorrow.

I am not happy with this - I don't know if it's a hardware issue, or an update - either way I am not impressed.

Has anyone else had similar issues?  How was it resolved for you?

It's really pi$$ing me off now as this will be 3 weeks without my phone.

Sadly, this is the reward for being an "Early Adopter"; you get the social status for having the latest toy, but you also have to pay through the nose and put up with all the beta bugs they didnt fix in time for the launch.

Still, it could have been worse, if it had been a PC you would have had Windows 8 installed on it!!!

Does turning off the 'screen rotate' in the top swipe down menu stop it?

It does sound like a potential issue that ultimately needs fixing with a operating system update.

not seen this so far, the camera really is good, much better than the s3

Might be worth checking the S4 section on androidforums.com

Get a replacement handset.

If Vodafone can't fix it in a reasonable time then you can 'reject' the handset and end the contract without penalty.

I would advise opting for an HTC One, or the iPhone maybe.

Took it back in to Vodafone for the third time - if they don't fix it this time - I will be rejecting it and cancelling the contract.

Am also going to send a twitter to Vodafone - I spoke to the assistant manager and he basically ignored every bloody question I had for him.  He was busy doing the paperwork for the handset repair.
