Go through Insurance ?

Featured Replies

Had a bit of a scrape in the Scout. Bumpers going to need replacing and it looks like it's going to cost around £650.

Would it be worth going through the insurance ? Never had to claim before so would it really bang the premium up ?

As its all plastic theirs no rush.

What is your excess?

Personally for any repairs less than £1,000 I'd be tempted to pay for myself as you'll end up paying more through future premium hikes.

we had a similar bumper bash issue, but someone hit us

they gave their insurance details so we got repairs done through the insurance.

The repairs cost ~500 and it would have cost us about £160 for the hire car we were given during the repairs. I can't expect the premium will go up as much as it would have cost to do everything ourselves.

Got to be a lot before it's worth it since they'll hit you with an increased premium irrespective of your NCB.

One of the reasons I keep my excess quite high. It's just not worth claiming otherwise.

It's a PITA going through insurance anyway even when It's not your fault. I was hit by a lorry and they admitted fault at the scene. I still ended up out of pocket since it took so long to sort out I had to renew and it was classed as a partial blame until it was all settled.
