hi ive had real issues with my eps steering it started off intermitant with the red light being on then it would go off and be fine but if i stopped and switched engine off it would be 50 50 if the power steering was going to work or not some times the red light would go out whilst driving and be fine the entire journey other times it wouldnt ! in the end i was on permanantley so i made the choice of getting a second hand eps rack and fitted it i also fitted a recon alternator ! i was told by skoda and others that the rack would not give any eps steering as its coded and would need to be programmed into the ecu to give any function at a cost of £144. anynway yesterday ide finished fitting the rack and alternator i wasnt expecting the rack to funtion but took it for a short drive to my friends after half mile the light changed from red to yellow and the eps started to function i then carried on driving parked up and went full lock left and right. it then went from yellow and went off and i had full eps ! i went for a short drive thinking WOW i got my car sorted now but i couldnt work out why i had been told it would not function unless it was programmed into ecu ?? anyway i drove home parked up for half hour and left bthe car when i got back into car turned ignition on all lights went out except the eps light it was red again i drove off and it went out and eps was working ? i went to a friends house turned ignition off then back on and its red and has been ever since its the same now as it was with my old rack !!

 

ANYONE GOT ANY ANSWERS ?? IM LOST

why did the rack function if it needs programming into ecu ??

ive replaced the alternator with a recon and my battery is fine

get it scanned with VCDS and see what the fault codes relate to. Could give an indication of the intermittent operation...

well heres the latest i took car to garage had it scanned nothing would show up the main car ecu would not comunicate with the rack ecu ?? he said it must be coded i explained that it did work when i first took it it out for test drive but then when i parked it up it wouldnt work again he couldnt understand it can anyone  on here explain whats going on cheers ????? 

hi all ive given up on this car now the recon alternator i fitted aint workin i may take it back to exchange it but to be honest ive realy given up on this car its on about 100 thousand miles it had the cambelt etc done at 80 sumut thousand and the clutch also recent new front pads and discs if anyones interested they can have it for 500 quid ive been told it has a version 5 engine in the car ?? i aint gona look cuz it makes me feel sick so if anyones interested (500 quid its yours)
