Front brakes

Featured Replies

Hi all. names Mick up in Geordie Land. I got a 2009 Octavia 2, 1.8  tsi. Wonder if anyone has tried Textar E-pads. My car has and always has had noisey front brake pads. You know if you haven't run the car for 2 weeks or so and you get surface rust on the discs. First few times you apply the brakes you get slight grinding sound while they clean up. Well mines done that from about 2000 miles. As a Motor Mechanic by trade from many years ago i'm familiar with this condition but never owned a car that does this all the time. Mileage is now 20,000 miles and I strip and dress up the brakes twice a year (that's before and after Winter). Eurocarparts stock the fronts for mine but only stock the rears for the 1.9 TDI.I know they are pricey but they advertise them as being almost silent and do wonders as far as lack of brake dust on your alloys for quite some time. Although the car does not need a brake reline as yet i'm seriously thinking of changing to the textar on the front. However I can't find any info as to wether they can be used with standard discs. My theory is that the standard Skoda front friction material is too hard although the stopping power is certainly there. I would appreciate any members thoughts on this. Cheers all and thanks in advance.
