Driveshafts

Featured Replies

I wouldn't think so.  I suspect its about 2" longer if going on the last time I offered a mk4 golf driveshaft up to my car.

You need one from a 9N Polo / 6L? Seat Ibiza.

Does the engine code matter for a drive shaft?

wow :o I'm getting my mate whos a mechanic to do mine, thank god for mates rates.

Fitting a driveshaft is only about half hour, tops.  Its the fact you have to break the bottom ball joint apart to move the hub out the way to slide it out which adds time.

How do you know if a driveshaft is on it's way out?

+1 on that ^

On full lock when pulling away or reversing you get a clicking noise.

Or in my case, you have no clue but when taking up 3rd gear at Santa Pod, the CV joint breaks clean in two!  D'oh!  :D

Thanks I get a noise when on full lock to the left, but it's not a clicking noise..

I do on full lock to the left too. Hmmm

I thought it might be the driveshaft rubbing against the intercooler pipework?

Clicking noises on lock or under load (I.e. turning) is often the CV joint rather than the drive shaft.

The above is true, I apologise, I just class it as part of the driveshaft since it is...

It's just part of the driveshaft that can be replaced.

That would be right actually Charlie! I noticed a 'clean' patch on my drive shaft where it looks as though it had been catching.

Coskev who I met up with said exactly the same about his too.

That's ok then :) so long as nothing's broken
