Talk about Torx

Featured Replies

Hi all, having now had a little time to delve into my cars various nooks and crannies, it's become apparent that I'm going to need some torx drivers.

I've been fiddling with cars for many years now, but these torx thingies are a rather new and confusing concept (there certainly ain't none on my '73 VW Camper or '90 Audi Coupe!).

Do I need a full set of these things or is there just 1 or 2 basic sizes to cover most areas of the car? I'm thinking mainly of interior/exterior trim, lower engine cover - that sort of thing.

Halfords do a rack of them, about

It might be worth buying a tamper-proof bit set too. I think the MAF needs one to remove it.

So I need a full set? From size what to what? I don't really understand the size /number allocation. ie T25 etc....? How does this work?

Once I know what I need, I'll probably try fleabay.

I noticed those anti tamper screws on the MAF today actually. Anyone know what these are actually called, or do I just get a 'set'?

Just had a look at my set, the rack goes from 20-55. But you will need a 15 thinking about it.

A set of 32 different tamper-proof bits as below costs circa

Believe T20 is what you need for the engine undertray :D Most modern bit sets seem to come with them, but I also bought some tamperproof ones from Screwfix (same set as Denis) as the number plate on my Scooby was held on with them!

If you get a tamper proof set they will do all.

However the MAF screws are Ribe screws, but really you shouldnt undo them.

Smallest used is about a T10 I think on the door trims, most are T20 and T25.

Sealey, Draper etc al do set that also include Spline sockets with are also used on Skodas.
