Turbo Flutter on VRS

Featured Replies

I've recently developed a hissing flutter sound when on full boost from around 2000rpm to 3500rpm then it stops and then it's full boost. I'm 90% sure that this is not a boost leak as I've replaced all the turbo pipes on my VRS, it's not a constant boost leak type sound either. The best way I can describe it is a fluttering sound.

I've done a little research and it could possibly be the N75 valve but I'm still not sure. Could it be my turbo on it's way out?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Sharpyy

Although not discounting a turbo issue, most people report a "siren" sound before a blow out.

Have you checked the connection between the SMIC and pipework as I replaced all of my connectors back in October and still have a slight hiss as you discribed and my mechanic has suggested this is the cause of mine, if not an actual hole in my intercooler .... FMIC bought and ready to go on :D

I had a sort of hissing noise on mine and discovered on Monday that the air supply trim between the front bumper and smic had actually rubbed through the core fins so had to replace it yesterday

I too have a flutter but only if I come off the gas while building boost, only happens from about 1700-2000rpm.

I quite like it!

I have it plenty of other people do. Searched on here a lot and tbh wasn't a great deal of help, some people are still on original tubo after 80k of driving with it, others say my turbos about to go pop.

Although on the original post if it goes up to 3500rpm sounds a bit different and possibly a boost leak or worse.

You get anywhere with this or is the car happily ticking along still?

No unfortunately I didn't, to be honest it doesn't sound like a big problem because a lot of people have it according a few forums. It still pulls hard over 3k revs so it's hopefully nothing to worry about.
