oil consumption

Featured Replies

Hi all,

About 3 months ago I got the yellow oil warning light on, checked the dip stick and it was near enough empty. Topped up the oil and thought nothing more of it, apart from giving the level a check everycouple of wweeksand topping up as needed.

I have just worked out the oil intake is now about 1 litre to every 2000 miles, surely this isnt right?

Ive recenyly had new intercooler pipework and s new maf, and last week had a coil pack fail as well. The car is starting to cost a lot and as its my workhorse so I need to get this sorted.

Cheers

Rob

 , I've never topped up the oil on my 52 plate Vrs in the 9 years and 120000 miles (and it gets driven enthusiastically).

Think you best get it checked out!

1 litre in 2k miles is within Skoda spec, it would have to guzzle a litre in less 600 miles technically.

Any signs of oil leak?

No signs of leaks, no smoke when running etc.

Only other thing is a bit of oil around the maf pipe work when I tried cleaning it before replacing it.

I suppose its not a great deal of oil so you may not get much smoke.

Is this something that has just started? If so could be caused by the crank case breather being blocked.

Otherwise I would just keep an eye on it. If you start taking things apart you could end up higher oil consumption afterwards.

Only started recently, the problem is I do about 2000 miles a month so topping up is getting expensive!

Pah thats not expensive.

I do a litre every 600 miles.

I get a little smoke on cold start by this I mean you can hardly see it unless looking at the exhaust and then it takes about 15 seconds to appear after starting up.

Apparently thats the valve stem seals.

I see no smoke when driving at any point.

Just trying to give you something to look for.

Mine was using about the same, 1 ltr to 2000 miles. cleaned out all breathers and replaced leaking cam cover gasket. will find out over the next few weeks if its cured it.
