mirror switch is broken

Featured Replies

Hi everyone :)

this is my first topic here, so i first wanted to tnx all the members here in this forum, i have learnd alot from your helping and sharing infos...

i have a prob: my mirror joystick is broken without any reasone or exaggerated force :(

after 2 years my car warrnaty is over and after 2.3 year the joystick is broken.

so i called the official skoda  importer & seller and told them my story.

in short:

1.i am the only driver since i bought the car (so there is no reasone for me to play with the joystick...ever)

2. 19,000km so far (the car still looks new from inside/outside)

3. i heard there was a campain in Seat for this part and i know they are giving a third year warrnaty from food faith

they said there is no warrnty for plastic and bla bla bla...

how do you think i should handle it?

1.send an email to Skoda? or is it fixable?

2. i tried searching this part on the web/ebay... didn't find it... just one person from uk (but its one the right door and i need the left door)

Nabat - welcome! I hope you read my posts and thought I was helpful... ;-)

Looks like the plastic cracked, so I wonder whether Skoda will do much beyond try to sell you their part.  For all they know, you may have caught it getting in the car and snapped it off.

As for left and right door - the component is the same surely?  It is only on one side of the car (the driver's side), whether that's left or right, so a UK joystick should fit your LHD car.

Good luck.

I am sure your post wat was one of them hhhh :)

regretfully you are right.  there is no way they would know if i am telling the truth or no..

about the part: well i trully don't know if they are the same... but they look the same (just on the opposite side)

p.s: the official skoda importer in here has a funny prices for parts ( he laugh and and we cry) so i prefer ordering it from the web or find it in a local "junkyard"

Hi

Does the small broken toggle still attached to the unit still work? If so can you super glue the joystick back on? Like you said if you are the only driver and don't move it often it may be cheaper to do that than pay £19.99

It does look like that unit would fit fine.

yes it's still work and it stuck on the left mirror... and it looks like the two parts will fit each other

i didn't thought on using a glue... good idea :)

what do you think about using Epoxy, it might be better?

I would use epoxy if you have it available.

I thought they had a three year warranty?

Even so, goodwill of the dealer to replace would go a long way and the part is only about £30 (GBP)

I would email Skoda...

The U.K. one is different in at the very least, the switch is reversed. Your left/right would be where our U.K. heater symbol is, your heater, where our left/right is!

I think therefor, you might possibly find that you will need to alter the wiring plug as you may make the mirrors left instead of righ when you try to move them! I could be wrong though and would like to know if you DO get a U.K. one, if it just goes straight on as I may get a European one... It looks as though it will make more sense having the heater symbol where it is easy to spot and the left/right will still be quite simple.

thanks xman for the site... i looked everywhre on this site and on the web - only right door switch :(

well... here its just 2 years warranty and rumers say they give a third year is a good faith - i never heard about anybody who won their kindness for a third year...

i sent skoda an email an hour ago (just found the skoda u.k mail) and i hope to hear good news from them.

good news for me is not paying a full price (120 $).

if i wont get it on a suitable price, i'll order the u.k one and post how i installed it...

isnt it weird that i am not finding a left door part? :(

On the subject, does anyone know how to safely remove this switch from the door?

thats was my next question on how doing this... thanks alot!

It's the same part, just installed in our right hand door.  It will fit your left hand door.

found out its a door panel removal job, as is a mirror removal... clever mr Skoda!

Another thing to think about... Whilst awaiting the part, at the correct price, how about just screwing a large headed self tapping screw into the remaining bit of switch, to use as the lever? Do it well and it will work well enough, just look horrid enough to get you to replace it soon as you find a new one.
