Garage found the source of my clonk!

Featured Replies

Your never gonna believe this!

Symptoms:

A very noisy clonking from somewhere under the car. Sometimes when driving on smooth roads, sometimes on bumpy roads, sometimes at 5mph when parking but ONLY when it was hot outside??

Cause:

A piece of granite road chipping had flicked up and lodged in the tray that holds the front offside spring. It was stopping the spring from seating properly and the clonk was the spring flicking off the (very hard) granite chipping.

And why only when it was hot?

Because the chipping had a blob of tar on one side which meant that when it was cold, the chipping would stick to the tray and not roll around - but when it was hot, the tar would melt, allow the chipping to roll around and lodge under the spring. Who'd have thought eh??

Thank God for good old fashion mechanicking and not the usual 'computer says no!' type that you get with other manufacturers.

Anyway - back on the road again woooooo hoooooooo :huep:

Cheers
