No First Gear

Featured Replies

Driving to university this morning, all seemed well.

Until I came to a stop at the lights as I came off the motorway and couldn't select 1st gear at all. I don't mean it wasn't liking it - it physically would NOT move in to gear.

I pulled away in 2nd, and tried all the other gears up and down the box - no problems. Next time i stopped, still couldn't get first.

When i parked, (which including reverse, no issues) i turned the engine off and managed to force the gear stick in to 1st, although it didn't feel engaged properly.

My initial thoughts are the dog clutch on 1st has stumped it, but this seems like a strange failure - is it something that is known?

Or is this something simple that I'm missing?

Thanks

Could just need cable adjustment so check this first . Easy to do.

Yours should be an 02J transmission if is a Mk1 car. Don't know about Mk2 and 2004 was the changeover year.
