Puddle Lights

Featured Replies

Noticed the other day on a standard TDI pre FL that it had puddle lights, why does my vRS not have these? Do they need to be activated by vag com? Do i need bulb holders etc or are they there already?

I think its a cool touch just surprised they are not on my vRS when a standard diesel has them?

Regards

Gareth

Just one of those things.

Was the same with the Pre-FL too.

The elegance gets rain/light sensor and puddle lights.

You needs the light sensor for the puddle lights as it uses the sensor to decide whether to turn them on or not.

So its not just simple throw bulbs in and use vagcom then :(

No unfortunately not.

The standard wing mirrors don't have the bulb holders or wiring for them.

Easiest way would be to get the wing mirror housings from an elegance and swap them over along with the wiring.

But then you might be faced with the problem of how the car would control them. Maybe without the light sensor they would just activate all the time.

Ah sounds like more hassle than its worth for them. I just thought mine maybe didnt have bulbs in or something or it was a vagcom trick

Thanks for the help Phil.

Looked into this when I had my Ambiente spec Octy. Turned out too costly and a lot of trouble to do :(

what you need are these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuTOe1jTQkQ

Far more classy

Hehe a lad local to me has these fitted to his Omega and they actually don't look as tacky as you'd think, still wouldnt fit them but they're not that bad :giggle:

I just couldn't understand when I seen them on the normal Octy that my vrs didnt have them.

I know with my next car i'll be speccing them along with electric folding mirrors, missus is sick of me making her put in the mirror anytime we park

My 4x4, which is based on elegance spec does have the rain sensor and auto wipers but doesn't have puddle lights. It all seems a bit random really.

A common misconception that the vRS is well specced / range topper model.

It's the reason why I got the top of the line L&K: I valued the toys and gizmos over the slightly faster engine cos I knew I could remap it for not a lot if I wanted to to get it the same. ;)

Those badge puddle lights look like they're about £50 from NPC if they had them in stock. Wouldn't pay that for them, but not sure if they're hiddeously tacky or slightly cool. Tricky one.

My puddle lights are awesome now I've put LED bulbs in. Just made it that little bit lighter without overdoing it. Love, love, love them.... and I also got the handle lights as standard which people always comment on as a great idea. :)

Like the idea in swedey's pic; it's a great halfway measure, just a shame that you have to open the door to get them to work so stepping into a puddle is only avoidable if you're getting OUT of the car! Good work though. :)

Just wanted to add that mine is a September 05 Octy 2 Elegance and the puddle lights always come on. There is no light sensor on mine or auto headlights. The puddle lights come on when you unlock the car until the door has been opened and closed, and that is door specific, so passenger stays on if only driver's door opened and closed. They then go off once the ignition is on.

Hope this helps someone

Chris

Yeah, don't know if you need the windscreen light sensor to have the 'coming home' lights option on on maxidot and simply if you can have the lights come on every time you unlock it, but if you can wire it to that system I can't see why you can't get puddle lights to come on EVERY time you unlock the doors, it just won't work ONLY when it's dark as the OEM wiring with the sensor would dictate.
