Second layer of wax - correct procedure?

Featured Replies

I gave my car the full work over a few weeks ago. Now I'm thinking about giving it a second layer of wax before winter sets in. The procedure I used the last time is as follows :

Rinse

Wash using 2BM

Rinse

Clay bar

Rinse

Polish

Wax

Basically I'm thinking about doing the above again, but without claying. Would that be OK or should I just leave it at rinsing, washing and then a QD?

Thanks for your advise :-)

Don't see anything wrong with adding another layer of wax over the other. More protection, but wax will only last a few weeks before wearing off.

Wax yes, but polish as well will remove your previous layer of wax.

Just wash it and wax it...

All waxes degrade at different rates..Some will last a few weeks, others many months

Its always worth reapplying as soon as you see the beading change from tight round globules to irregular larger ones, this is a sign of the wax degrading.

Claying and polishing is only necessary once or twice a year..Autumn, Spring typically

Thank you for your answers.

@ChrisRs Pretending that it's spring (I wish). What do you do? Do you strip old layers of wax or just do something similar to my list above? I know you're pro so you list is probably longer :-)

Yes...in the Spring wash with something like washing up liquid and APC and clay the car or use a dedicated product to do this

..Then polish, wipe down with 50/50 water to IPA and then apply your LSP

Sorry, APC and LSP?

Forgot something. Why do you wipe down with water /IPA after doing polish?

Because some polishes contain some oils which will, if not removed, cause LSP's to underperform
