If I leave my computer for a little while I usually come back to find some kind of chrome pop-up along the lines of there not being enough room on my hard drive / computer is too slow / etc, with a big button saying "fix now" LOL....  I always just close the tab and carry on, but a full scan with AVG (free one though....) finds nothing.

 

Any other free things I can try to see if this pop-up chrome issue can be removed?  Each time it pops up there is a random URL too in the browser....

Use spybot to scan the PC and also use malwarebytes to scan the PC (all free).

 

Sounds like you have some kind of "antivirus" virus software on there.

I always use a combo of MS Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. The two have always managed to removed whatever is causing the problems. Work were so impressed we're now rolling it out across all 300+ machines on the netowrk!

I didn't think you could use either commercially, or do they do licenced versions?

Licensed version of Malwarebytes (installing as required rather than blanket install policy) and got Security Essentials as part of SCCM and SCOM. Fantastically easy to manage through SCCM!
