1.2TSI 105BHP - real power

Featured Replies

Certainly feels more than 105bhp.

Very impressed with mine, on a standing start its a bit rubbish but once moving in gear is good.

It seems quite common for most VAG engines to achieve more power than stated.

I bet the 1.2 TSI would be very nice with a remap.

Seconded. Still very happy with mine, hardly sluggish but isn't too thirsty either.

You can make decent progress as the engine/chassis/wheel-tyre combo I have makes it a bit sporty :)

I think that's because the turbo doesn't work in first gear (to reduce wheelspin and strain on components I guess)

Hmm, not sure about that - mind you only done 2500 miles so hardly properly run in.

Certainly a good all rounder car.

A year ago I hired a Seat Ibiza 1.2 and round town it was brilliant. Going up the hills in rural Leicestershire was embarrassing --I could have overtaken it walking.

Last week I hired another Ibiza 1.2 but with the DSG gearbox.  Just fantastic. Amazing.  My brother refused to believe it was not a 1.6.

Next car will have DSG.  Have VAG dealt with the 600,000 they had to recall for faults---or is that a myth?

You sure the one you had last year was a TSI, and not the older non-turbo MPI? Makes quite a big difference! Even the 86PS TSI feels significantly faster and stronger than the MPI.

I've noticed this too, and seems to be the same in the 1.4 TSI 140 fitted to the Octavia 3 etc. Could be emissions related to get it rated lower perhaps.

Good point well made.

It was a Seat Ibiza S 1.2 CSC   whatever that is  Calling it gutless (on any incline) is an insult to a kipper.

The only worse car I've hired was a 1.6 Renault Gran Scenic.  So slow I hid for shame in the left hand lane among the trucks.

i ll second this.

this is the case in most turbo cars.

on a long journey i made this weekend, also noticed that the turbo feel comfortable between 2,5K rpm and 4,5K rpm. above that it feels tired. but overall the engine works perfectly for a 1.2 lt

That sounds like it was actually just the normal 1.2 HTP (High Torque Petrol). Think they're only 70hp.

I had mine out on a fairly long drive yesterday and the ease with which it overtakes, even going uphill with the aircon on leads me to think mine has a lot more than 86BHP too...
