Its been a week

Featured Replies

So I have had my new VRS Tdi (manual) for a week now and covered almost 600 miles, so what do I think.

To start, it is very comfortable - I haven't done a long trip but my journey to work each day takes an hour for the 50 miles I need to drive, I certainly feel fine when I arrive at work in the morning and get home in the evening. I didn't go for the full leather, just left the seats as standard with the red stitching. However as I wanted the heated screen (had them previously in Ford's and was one thing I missed with other manufacturers) I now have heated seats. I always thought these were a bit of a joke, however I have used them twice so far and I am really loving them, especially as they also warm your lower back. It rides well on the 18's and the 'sports suspension' is not harsh.

The car itself is very spacious which was one of the reasons for buying the Octy. I spend most weekends travelling for hockey matches with my 14 year old son, and when mum comes to he ends up in the back of the car which in the Furby did not give him a lot of space. Job done, he can almost hold a party back there without even disturbing us.

Performance - what can I say, it is a new car and I am trying to be gentle, but boy it does fly when you want it to. My previous car was a Furby VRS so I was used to some reasonable performance and this diesel is certainly on a par. Maybe not as quick on paper, but certainly not noticeable in reality.

ACC and Lane Assist - Now I appreciate the purists will say you shouldn't even be using such things, but I really like it. some have concerns that people will become sloppy with its use, personally I feel I am more alert to everything that is going on around me. Certainly far better than conventional cruise control. The only issue I have had with it was when a leaf partially obscured the sensor whilst driving which caused it to shut down.

The Bolero is a nice unit, especially with DAB, and thanks to another Biskodian posting about the radio logos I have managed to upload those that I wanted to the head unit. Sound is adequate for me but may not be acceptable to others.

I have had my Blackvue re installed and I believe it was a very straightforward job. SorryI can't tell anyone much more about this as it was done by my local audio specialist who has done a great job concealing the instal.

The other reason for the Octy was the Diesel engine. Economy to date has been pretty good averaging around 50 mpg so far. It is almost paying for itself in reduced fuel costs over the Furby which is great.

I may even get some pictures posted, but it is starting to look a little dirty now with all of this nice weather we are having :)

Can you point me in the direction of that post, please?  I still haven't been able to do this, no matter how many times I've tried, whether following instructions from the manual or posts that I've found on this site.

It's been a week for me too.  Overall I'm chuffed to bits with the car.  There are a few niggles that will get resolved over the next few days, but nothing major.

On my first full tank of fuel, I got 450 miles from a 45 litre fill, averaging 45.3mpg, with a real mix of driving, country lanes, motorways, A & B roads.

I've been driving in both Eco & Sport mode, I don't see why you'd want anything else really.  Sport mode for when you've got a clear road & fancy a blast, Eco mode for when you're trundling in traffic or cruising on the motorway.

These threads are making my waiting worse. :)

Great to hear the heated seats are good. A bad back meant they were a must.

Thank you for the review - I am on the fence regarding an Octavia but having a test drive next week.

I see you're fairly local to me (I'm West Sussex but work in Guildford) - where did you buy the car from?

fiisch, you have a PM, regarding two dealerships.

Jerry,

I've only seen your car in the flesh with the grill radar in it. How robust do you think it is?

I'm thinking about stone chips etc because it's in prime position for getting damaged. I wonder what sort of warranty it attracts, if any?
