anybody gone from a 170 estate, to a 170 4x4?

hello, just wondering what difference the 4x4 makes to hadling/mpg  due to the extra wait.may be going down the  4x4 :rain: dsg route.cheers paul.

Not gone from a 170 to a 170 4x4 superb but went from a 170 Octavia vrs estate to a new 13 plate superb 170 4x4 estate and its awesome the 4x4 system is clever as you can put the power down of the mark without the front wheel scrabble and then it reverts back to front wheel drive, It does feel a little heavier than a 2wd superb but it feels so planted on the road. If I drive it sensibly I can get between 45 to 50 mpg (worked out tank to tank refills). Over the moon with it and should be stunning in the snow.

my 170 4x4 on winter tyres was excellent in the snow - 41ish mpg was the real-world average for it.

I have gone from a 170DSG estate to a facelift 170DSG 4x4. The difference in traction is incredible, no wheel spin or traction control intervention even with a large caravan (1600kg) on the back. The down side is the MPG has dropped from 44 to 42 average, 82,000 to 7000 miles so it may get better also have towed the caravan for a greater percentage of ownership with the 4x4

Handling is very good for a big car, I would say because of the 4x4 system its poss on or very close to the vrs, Performance isn't as good as the vrs even though they are 170bhp, I think the superbs power is more gradual. Brilliant car though.

My Superb 4x4 going anywhere (aslong as the snow wasn't too deep!)

Al .

I have had big problems with "heal and toe" wear on the rear tyres of my 1.8TSI

I have heard that this is a problem affecting many new cars - since cars in general are getting heavier.

This problem should go away with 4x4

Isn't it just a wheel-alignment issue?

The 4x4 is excellent all year round. Goes well with the engine as there is a good level of torque in the low and mid ranges. Nothing that a mild remap wouldn't improve further though if you wanted to go past VRS performance levels! ;)

I would have gone for DSG too had it been available when I ordered mine.

Cheers

Steve
