How to read chassisnumber and FAB vs HUF? Ignition starter switch.

Featured Replies

Hello,
i'm looking in etka for a new ignition starter switch with transponder coil. So far so good...

But it tells me that if i have chassisnumber ">> 6Y-3-661-670" i should have one kind, or if ive number "6Y-3-661-671>>" ive should have something else?!?!

I understand that this is before and after that chassinumber, but how do i read out that from my number?

My number is TMBGC26YX23514275. I see the 6Y but thats all i understand.

Can someone explain this to me?

I have also looked for a new waterpump and the information i got on my supplier website is: "For chassinumber 6Y-54421 759". Now i'am more confused...

Can someone also tell me the difference between the remarks FAB and HUF on the ignitionlocks?

/Hasse

Thanks for asking this, I've wondered the same thing about these chassis number ranges.

Hope someone can help.

I think I can help with part of this query. Only the last 11 digits of the full 17 digit VIN are needed to arrrive at the abbreviated VIN for use with the genuine parts catalogue.

So, the full VIN = TMBGC26YX23514275

The last 11 = 6YX23514275

The 9th digit of the full VIN is replaced by a hyphen giving 6Y-23514275 which is the abbreviated VIN you need.

The 2 in the abbreviated VIN is the code for the model year - ie 2002; 3 is the code for the place of manufacture - ie Mlada Boleslav; and 6Y is the Fabia model code.

Sorry I can't help with what FAB and HUF in the remark column of ETKA mean.

Edited to change year of manufacture to read model year.

Part of that confuses me, Denis :( Mine is 6Y-533XXXXXX. OK it's a 53 plate, but how would they know it would be registered as a 53 plate before it's built and registered :o Also, how would this work on foreign cars where the VIN doesn't correspond to the reg number or year of the car?

TMBMS4/6Y-533732XXX

I am not sure if you have replaced the 9th digit of the original VIN with a hyphen to arrrive at 6Y-533XXXXXX - which is one digit too long to be a valid abbreviated VIN.  Perhaps an extra X has snuck in?

edited to include full VIN minus the last three digits :)

OK, so the abbreviated VIN is 6Y-33732XXX where the first 3 indicates that it is a 2003 model year car and the second 3 that it was built in Mlada Boleslav. ETKA shows that the date of manufacture was the month 31.12.2002. The VIN may be further abbreviated to 6Y-3-732XXX where details of the producing factory are not necessary.

The full VIN uniquely identifies the vehicle as built. It does not indicate when and where the vehicle will be subsequently registered and used.
