Question regarding speakers

Featured Replies

Apologies if this has already been discussed but couldn't find anything recent.

I'm ordering a Yeti tomorrow and the final decision is do I go with the 12 speaker sound system?.  I've not had chance to listen to the stereo as when I had a test drive I was concentrating on other things :)  I love my music and would pay the extra for better quality sound but would like those who have tried it or have it to let me know what your thoughts are?

thank you in advance.

I like my music too and have the 12 speaker upgrade which includes enhanced graphic equalizer functions and a useful 'driver only' enhancement (boosts the near side speakers to put the 'centre' in line with the driver.

It's worth every penny IMHO.

As an aside, having just got the Pure Highway 300Di retrofit DAB radio, if you get the opportunity to add DAB, go for it as well.

Good luck.

thanks for that Guy.

Please don't put any more options in front of me (the DAB), i'm having to sneak the heated windscreen in already, that's without the speakers  :notme:  :)

I've not heard a yeti without, but with it sounds pretty good. The system struggles with bass somewhat and I'm sure a true audiophile would be able to critic much more descriptively, but I'm happy I got it since I do listen to a lot of music in the car (when I get chance to drive it).

I listen to 6 music a lot so DAB would be a must for me to.

I find it slightly amusing that where as other car manufactures might have a Bose, Harman Kardon or similar plaque attached to the speaker fronts, Skoda decided to attach a little silver plastic plaque that says "sound system". This is a bit naff and they shouldn't have bothered. I guess they did this to indicate to any skeptical buyers that the sound system option has been fitted in case the quality of the audio left them in doubt!! Alternatively, maybe the only difference between the normal speakers and the optional sound system is the little silver label, and the whole thing is a scam. :giggle:

Anyway as I say, I'm happy with it and would select again.

Those speakers with the 'sound system' badge are the additional mid-range ones that are the basis of the upgrade.

Oh, slinky72, if you leave your Yeti out overnight and go off to work early, the heated windscreen is an absolute must; a notable safety feature naturally.

I do exactly that Guy.  Leave it on the drive overnight and start work early.  That must be a good enough excuse to justify it  :giggle:

Thanks

For what it's worth I haven't got the upgraded sound system and I do think the sound is notably less good than in my previous car. It's OK for the radio but playing music off the SD card just  doesn't seem quite "right" and twiddling with the various adjustments doesn't really seem to have improved things.. If music on the move is important to you I would say go with the option - it's only money!!

(Having thought about this for a few minutes, I think it could well be the absence of the mid-range speakers referred to above that I'm detecting with my slight disappointment with the standard audio).

I have to say i was a little dissapointed with the standard system in my new yeti, it's noticeably more 'tinny' and lacking bass than the standard system in my fabia vrs.

not sure if I have it on mine, no little sound system badge anywhere so I assume not.

I find the sound perfectly fine, infact I can go full on gangsta with the base and rattle some windows.

more that enough my the usual radio2

I think the standard speakers in my Adventure are actually quite superb. I had Bose in my Audi A3, and in my M135i i have the Harmon Kardon upgrade kit, and the Yeti is surprisingly very good.

If it's not too late already, here are my thoughts.

I ordered my Yeti without the upgraded speakers, and I "ummed and ahhed" about it for a couple of weeks.  I decided I wanted to add them to my order and called the dealer, only to find the last date for amendments had been the day before.

As it stands, the standard speaker package I would rate as "acceptable" or perhaps a little higher.  Having heard the upgraded speaker package I would describe that as being "very good indeed" or higher.  A considerable improvement.

In short - get the better speakers!!!!!

I have the uprated sound system and like it. I can listen to it for the whole of a long trip, whereas in previous cars I'd have turned it off because the noise just got on my berves.

My first Yeti had the standard sound system, my current one has the speaker upgrade. If I get a third it'll definitely have the speaker upgrade.

The base system is ok, but the upgrade gives much more depth and body to the sound. I'd say that if you think you might want it then you probably do.

Everyone, thank you for your input.  Very helpful.

I spoke to Jonathan from Carfile again today who was extremely helpful as always and took what I wanted and spoke to the dealer.  I just spoke to the dealer now and put my order in  .

Even though I was on a tight budget, I still managed to add a few extra's.  I went with 1.2 TSI SE, Candy White, Matterhorn Alloys, double sided boot mat, floor mats, heated windscreen and the 12 speaker sound system.

I got to say the guy from dealer was extremely nice and helpful and went through everything.  One thing he did say was that he received an email just today from Skoda to say that the price freeze is getting cut short from the last day of October this Monday ( 21st).  So if anyone is thinking of getting the FL at the frozen price you will have to get a move on.

Again, thanks everyone for your valuable thoughts and help.
