When sat it traffic I often notice by brake lights reflected in signs behind me.

Even in a queue of traffic I notice the red reflection, there can be 4 or 5 cars behind me and if I flash my brake lights sure enough I can see it in the signs.

I'm sure other cars must be using their brakes, but it's quite noticeable when I brake.

So anyone noticed or am I going mad!

It's a 2012 VRS, but presume all have the same light clusters.

I've owned and followed a fair share of MkII Octavia's and the brake lights aren't overly bright compared to other cars.

 

They use a 21W bulb as with most other manufacturers.

 

Perhaps your line of sight to the reflective sign is such that you are seeing the full effect of the reflected light output from your particular car?

It's one if the things I like about my (pre-FL) Octavia is the 4 bulbs each side making it very visible even without the brake lights on.

And the reversing lights on both sides which is an added bonus (I've only ever had cheap cars before...)

Well at least if someone claims they didn't see you braking.....

Just check whether you have w3w or w5w bulbs in the c shape brake lights. Should be the former but almost accidentally installed replacement w5w's when one blew and it's quite noticeable despite only being just a 2w difference.

+1 I drive a lot on motorways and Octy brake lights aren't that good. I was rear ended on a MWay in 2011 whilst stationary with my foot lightly on the middle pedal so my brake lights were on.

Just me then, will have to find and stalk an Octavia one night!

Rear ended on a motorway sounds like a nightmare though!

Alternatively then, PUT the w5w bulbs into the rear lights to make it brighter!

That really would get me paranoid then! Oh the joy at blinding people in traffic, would make the commute more fun though!

Mine were bright too and that's how I liked them
