VRS - Smoke out of the exhaust under acceleration

Featured Replies

For the first time I followed my car while it was being driven by the Misses.

I noticed that under acceleration smoke would come out of the exhaust very briefly every so often. She wasn't booting it, but just pulling away from junctions etc...

That normal??

My driving habits are generally just motorway cruising but I do give it a blast every so often.....

Mine does the same mate

I've seen it in the rear view when the sun has been out or following it. Added to by running a de-cat

What colour smoke? When I was on my first oil thirsty engine after rolling with no throttle (and hence fuel) when I got back on the power I would get blueish oil smoke, and in severe cases it sounded like a diesel. Not good for business, but fortunately it's gone now except for very rare occasions.

Sure its not water vapour on each upchange (puff of white which dissipates quickly)?

Generally, blue smoke is oil, black is fuel and white is water (cats produce water like you wouldn't believe)..

It looked blue/black.

My is a gudden and uses some oil 1l per 2000 miles

Actually I've done over 9000 miles and only put in 3l of oil since I got it it. So not too bad. It runs smooth and I've had no problems. Just concerned that it puffs a blue/black smoke very briefly under acceleration.

black smoke is definatly normal, (you will even get spots of black soot on the back of your car) blue is not. blue is buggered.

Agreeing fully with Sharkrider.

Black soot build up and blowing out the exhaust when booting it is perfectly normal in a Twincharger that runs a bit rich when cold.

Blue smoke is a bad thing.

Someone needs to crack out the metal polish/wire wool/ Dremel George

Forever cleaning my zorst :(

I like those behind to think they are following a diesel Skoda.

The first puffs help conform that,

the big blast of soot under acceleration leave them with the thought they are still about to stand a chance.

& Wire wool will be the last thing getting used.

The shine is nice and non rusty under the soot when ever that is important to reveal, easy with a bit of a wipe..

Unlike the rest of the rusty exhaust system.

Hmm well it was low light/ dusk so I'm hoping that it's not blue smoke and a buggered engine!!! :-(

I think I need to conduct a test!

The only test needed is use you finger on the tail pipe.  (honest never meant that in a rude way.)

Check the exhaust soot, nice and black then its soot from running 99 ron petrol and a build up because it runs a little rich.

It should not feel oily.

If your engine does not use oil, or very little you are fine.

If your car is serviced and the ECU updated and spark plugs are fine, then no need to go worrying.

Had a bit of smoke last weekend. Have noticed it a handful of times & was bit worried - this thread has helped me relax :)

I've never noticed any smoke coming from mine, must be some though because when I come to cleaning it it's absolutely caked in soot, damn my OCD for having nice and shiny pipes :D
