Start/stop doesn't always activate

Featured Replies

Thank you for your ideas. The car is going back to Skoda for the second time this week. I shall let you know how it goes.

When it was in the first time my previous Citigo was on the forecourt and I asked them to compare the 2. They refused to do so which I thought strange.

If it's the same as bmw start stop system there are various reasons it won't work

Not enough charge in boost battery

Temperature below 3

Car moving a certain distance

...

try it, if it stops when at a set of lights put your foot on the brakes a few time and it will restart :)

Yes. Ours needed a couple brake pedal pushing and it started itself again. It's so smart. :notme:

I've noticed recently that our stop/start isn't activating. When it should stop the engine the little icon appears on the dash with a line through it, as though one of the conditions listed hasn't been met. It used to work perfectly, but I guess that some requirement hasn't been met. No idea which one though.

Battery isn't charged enough?

i was surprised to get an auto stop yesterday, the engine was not fully warmed up, it had only got to 40C.

It doesn't have to be at operating temperature despite what the list says above.

After a few minutes of driving mine will start/stop, and the coolant temp is well below 90

2SkodaFamily,

Has the ambient temperature been too low for it too work.?

ie, Wintery Weather / Not much above freezing / Nippy

When battery is fully charged (not very often in winter), start/stop works even if ambient temperature is low (around freezing temperatures). I've noticed this as I recharge the battery with automatic battery charger every now and then.

I don't think we've seen more than 8C here. Mostly been around 3-5C recently so it could be the discrepancy between inside and outside temps?

No.

If and when battery is full enough, engine will stop aroud 3-5C temperatures.

Glad I found my way in here. Mine's been a bit intermittent but as I've had other stuff going on I'd just parked it as a 'to do later' in my list.
It always starts from stop start but doesn't always cut out when I expect it to.
What you've said about temp etc makes a lot of sense, thanks.

I do wonder though, if that really makes it as efficient as it's supposed to be and worth the extra money for the Greentech.
Should I have just bought the standard Citigo at nearly a grand less (2nd hand) and turned the engine off myself at the lights?

I did want the most efficient model I could stretch to for environmental reasons, but so many electrical blips on this car I can't help thinking it might be a false economy...

It is more efficient for nearly all users and situations!

But in any case, you can feel good about reducing your NOx, CO2  and particulate emissions!

Without re-opening the whole topic, there are many situations where the ECU decides to not stop the engine - it is smarter than a lot of people realise, but errs on the side of caution.
