Jacking an Octavia II estate

Featured Replies

I know this has been asked before, but the answers were a bit inconclusive.

Am I OK to use a trolley jack with a slotted hard rubber jack pad on the sills (directly underneath the point marked by a triangle inside the door shut)?

I only need to swap the wheels over.

Some people suggest that (despite what the manual says) the sills are too weak to be used under any circumstances.  I tried jacking it today but there were enough creaking and cracking noises as the tyre came close to lifting (I know all cars make odd noises as the coil spring extends) to put me off.

My MX-5 is somewhat easier; I just jack the whole front or back using the front subframe or the differential housing, and don't go anywhere near the sills!

Absolutely. I use my trolley jack on the seams without even using a rubber block without any problems. Obviously make sure you are jacking on the strengthened part of the seam.

Yes... Done it on mine with the widow maker and its fine...

I have rotated my tyres front to back of the car every 6000 miles for the last four and a half years - no problems. I use a Costco floor jack but no rubber hocky puck.
