Possible starting problems?

Featured Replies

I suspect this is normal, but Jason reckoned it's not when he saw my car.

When I turn the key, glow light comes on and it can take upto 7 seconds to disappear, sometimes it is near instant though. Then when it gets started up, sometimes it revs the engine to near 3k before settling.

Oh and sometimes when I'm at the lights, the revs will increase from 800ish to 1200ish.

No accelerator on any of those by the way. Am I looking at a possible fault or just normal?

7 seconds to start is not normal! Mine was instant and it shouldn't take it to 3k rpm!

I did notice the traffic light thing a couple of times when I owned the car, but my other half just thought I was doing it. Never did find the cause and it didn't throw up any faults on VAG-COM, so I just assumed it was down to the tuning box on it.

I don't have any tuning mods at all, just lowly 100bhp stuff. So it's unlikely to have been you're tuning box. Maybe you better tell the new owner? Though if a few others say it happens to theirs then maybe its just 'one of those things'.

Its not really worrying these things to me, more annoying as everyone thinks I'm flooring it to start it up!

So, just get it checked at the next service maybe?

Tend to find that it could be a glow plug gone down.

Could be worth getting it checked out.

Does the Fabia need 4 glow plugs? And if so, how easy are they to swap over DIY style? Dealer only or 'stop being a muppet and get you're socket set out'?

My TDI had a temperature sensor fail which led to erratic glowpugging. Was fixed under warranty as it was a known fault.

Could not tell you the price.

How many miles have you done?

Do youhave Vag Con available.

Could be temp sensoe as bryand says.

The glow plug light should go out almost instant.

I have loads of problems with my temp sensor on my Felicia Diesel so in went a petrol one to solve the problem.

But if it is glow plug fault not nessisarily all thats gone down.

Could just be 1.

So you could do with taking it to someone in the know to get them checked.

I get it checked over today and fixed. It was indeed a temp sensor. I really need to hurry up and order that German 'Haynes' so I can these things myself.

Oh and get VAGCOM.

Cheers.
