MDI in on Columbus Possible?

Featured Replies

Yes I have used both leads so worth having both.

When you come to fit the mdi, to keep the aux, remove the three aux pins from the blue connector 4 at the head unit and run them into the mdi plug. So the wire that goes to pin 1 at the head unit now goes to empty pin 5 in the mdi plug, the wire that goes to pin 2 at the head unit now goes to pin 11 at the mdi plug and the same for pin 7 at the head unit which is moved to pin 6 at the mdi plug.

Connector 4 can be identified by referring here:

Feel free to message me for further advice if needed.

adamal always has to do things the hard way...

Ah, ok so I can still keep the Aux in..that's fantastic!... It sounds pretty straight forward to do and I'll have one less connector to worry about trying to squeeze in behind the head unit.... 'Cloud & Silver lining'!!

Thanks KBPhoto & adamal

Well I wanted my mdi and eat it......

Seriously though I bought my mdi kit quite cheaply and didn't have the option of a loom which kept aux from that particular seller. Eddie responded to a thread and supplied me with advice and a sub loom. I then realised from his instructions that I could do the above to effectively create the loom I should have bought in the first place...

Padredante: you can keep it but it doesn't save any space I'm afraid. It's only three pins and connector 4 with its other pins remains part of the quadlock.

Sorry I misunderstood, but at least I don't have to go through the pains of having to return the part I've ordered - Result..

Thanks again.

The MDI kit has now arrived. Looking at the new MDI loom, connector 4 has 11 pins in place with only pin 10 missing (CD changer control line). Connector 3 has 12 pins, with pins in place. Looks like retaining the Aux has already been catered for?

Oh, and does anyone know where I can get the metal mounting bracket used for mounting the MDI controller behind the glovebox?

You could try asking the dealer, but I was told that they were only available with the full MDI kit.

I got mine online. I'll try to recall where from.

Don't forget to read this for my experience. & thoughts: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/281317-mdi-mounting-bracket-fitting/?fromsearch=1

One thing I discovered recently is that it seems to use the same mounting point as the CAN gateway on early 2007 (and earlier) Octavias.

The part number is 4F0 035 909. Could try skodaparts.com? They will often add a part if it is not on their site already following a PM to them as a user on here.

Looking at the other end, ie the one that will join to the existing loom, look at the wires on pins 1, 2 and 7 in what will connect to block 4. They will either not be there as I suspect, or will run up to pins 5, 6 and 11 at the plug for the MDI. If its the latter you are ok. If not you will need to run wires from them to the MDI plug, or run the three aux wires direct to the MDI plug as I mentioned earlier if you would rather not fiddle with loom.

Another quick way to check is to see if pins 5, 6 and 11 are occupied at the MDI plug.

Jeeez.. everything is so tightly crammed in to the MDI plug thatI can't even determine the pins let alone if there are wires running to them.. I think I better remove the tape and zip tie so I can get a proper look..

Yes I had to do that to get the extra wires in.

Thinking about doing this in my Superb. Did it in my Octy previously. Is the mounting location the same as the guide refers to the Octy?

No idea. Someone with ETKA (or equivalent) will be able to tell you. Or you could take the glovebox off to see.

I hope so as I've just ordered the braket to mount the MDI controller behind the glove box....

Did you investigate the wiring on your loom Padredante??

No, not properly anyway. I tried looking at the MDI plug itself but it's that tightly crammed I can't make a lot out. I've been working early / late so haven't had chance to spend adequate time on it but hopefully will this weekend.. Looks like I'm going to have to remove the zip tie and some tape to get a proper look at what's there...or more to the point, what's not there.
