Wrapping a roof

Featured Replies

I'm thinking about having this done to SWMBO's forthcoming (controversially de-striped) white sport.

Sent a couple of e-mail enquiries out, and expressed some concern that cutting the vinyl may affect the paint. Here are two quite different replies I've had:

Company A

With vinyl wrapping all companies cut the vinyl on the vehicle once it has been heated and stretched to fit the body of the vehicle. So there is a possibility that the paint under the vinyl will get cut or scratched.
The best option would be spray wrap which we also do. This method is alot better and safer then vinyl wrap and comes of even easier then vinyl if you ever wanted to remove it in the future.

We could spray wrap your roof and mirror caps for £225

Company B
The cost for this would be £140 in gloss or matte black,

Gloss would look good, especially if it has privacy glass,

We use knifeless tape on things like this, which cuts the vinyl using a Kevlar wire which is positioned under the vinyl prior to installation, then once applied the wire is pulled from under the wrap, cutting the vinyl with no knives involved,

That's quite a difference in price and advice!

Big price difference.

Maybe ask on the forum if anyone has had any work done at these places

Or recommendations where to go.

I know one of the best around, and they're in Mansfield, so not too far

Whoever you go with, it will look great (I do love a wrapped roof)

Don't worry about distance. Book in with Russ at Midland Car Care. His work (wrapping, detailing, tinting) is second to none. He only uses 3m products etc etc

You'll find his work on Detailing World.

(I'm not affiliated with him by the way)

I was looking at getting my Octy roof done and the chap said exactly the same about the special tape, as I had raised concerns over cutting on the car. He also used 3M stuff with think he said 7 year warranty or 5 not too sure now.

Think I would avoid company No1.

Spill the details on who in Mansfield please.

Thinking of the internal panels and the boot. It's only a matter of time before I smash through the paint with my food box or ice axes.

Toying with door panel too, keep whacking it with keys getting out.

Might do the roof ;)

The main reason I have not had my roof done (Octy) is because he needed to take my headlining down at the rear and reach in with a spanner and loosen off the nut on the antenna mount, to remove it to give him a clean roof.

Bit worried about any leaks or warranty issues if a leak happened.

Think once the warranty runs out may go for it.

Think they will have to do that with your Citigo antenna, as that is also roof mounted too?
