Rear bumper support removal when fitting tow bar

Featured Replies

I'm installing a tow bar on my Mk2 Octavia estate and got all the body work off fine, when getting to the point of removing the bumper support bar, the Torx Bolts are covered in what I believe is underseal and proving difficult to remove, I've tried. One of the bolts doesn't have any in the head but even that one is proving hard to shift. Anyone have any ideas on how to get them out or anyone faced the same problem? :)

TBH I don't remember it being all that difficult. I suggest you use a hammer to smash the screw driver bit into the head of the screw before turning.

In any case, it is worth remembering that they are not going to be used again. The instructions are to put the screws back into the holes. If you need to, you can always use an angle grinder to cut the heads off.

One tip, go get a couple of the nuts/washers that hold the exhaust heat shield on. They are a press fit and will simply break when you take them off.

Thanks, finally managed to get them off this evening, using a torque wrench and a bit of time with a drill and knife getting the under seal out of the heads of the bolts they eventually came off!

Thanks for the tip with the exhaust heat shield, will have a look in the morning once it's light again, damn these dark evenings!
