Koni FSD 2100-4090 for my 08 Octavia RS. Should I?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have read lots of threads on the FSD’s, and lots of different opinions.

Here is the case;

My car: 08 Octavia RS Wagon CR with 50.000 miles on the oem suspension.

Only modification is a Whitline adjustable rear anti roll bar. Might get Revo’d after the winter.

I can get a set of brand new  FSD’s for £200. (2100-4090: that is the revised version right?)

I have no interest in slamming or much lowering of my car. Coilovers are not an option. I only consider these due to the price I can get them for.

They will be paired with a set of new oem springs, or some Eibach’s. The 20mm drop would be nice, and get the car looking a little better.

I do find the oem suspension on the car unrefined and somewhat uncomfortable. Especially on the 18” summer tires.  Just Like I did with the S-Line suspension on my previus B7 A4 S-Line.

Will I like the FSD better on a daily base? And with what springs?

The car is a daily driver, and see one track day per year. Anyone have any track insight on these? Better than oem?

I appreciate any comments and insight.

Regards

I like the Bilstein B8's but.........................

At that price your can't go wrong, they are usually £500, just get some good springs like Eibach’s or H&R 35mm, which will drop the car by 15mm over the std vrs height

The price swings it for me. I would recommend the B12 kit otherwise, if it was based on RRP. If I was starting with a standard Octy again, I would go with Bilstein.

I have the 4090s, with Eibach ProKit springs. Have run them for over 2yrs and around 25k miles. There's no question it's a better setup than the factory setup - ride compliance is much better, chassis control and handling in a different league.

I don't think the damper is as well matched to the chassis as the FSD setup I had on my Fabia Mk1 though, that was brilliant. It could be the worsening state of the roads of course, in the time since I ran that! There's no question that they're in a far worse state and also with a shorter spring, there's no way that any setup can deal with some of the road surfaces I come into contact with!

Also remember, if you fancy going down the Bilstein route, the B12 kit is just the B8 dampers with Eibach springs so.... you can try and buy seperatly and see if you can do it cheaper

Thanks for the input. Keep it coming. Just got quoted £320 for the Eibach Pro-Kit. Auch! Will be searching for that elsewhere…. 130 Euro + shipping on ebay.de

On the same note. What other "components" are recommended being changed while you do the springs & shocks? Top mounts etc.?

Is there a suspension diy for our cars on Briskoda?

Thanks again.

I did top mounts on mine, depends on your car's mileage really.

You could also look at renewing suspension bushes at the same time, that way you can get one suspension geometry/alignment done, seeing as it'll need doing after the suspension is changed anyway.

That Eibach price does sound expensive. Can't remember my price breakdown now, but recall them being somewhere between £160-200. Maybe see one of the UK suppliers, who might ship to you? DPM, Jabba, Awesome etc - but not sure who is an Eibach supplier these days.

I promise to stop saying "bilstein" as there are other good kits out there but............. the top mounts are built in :moon: .

Like Wardy says, the Eibach's are about £160 ish and I'd get the bushes done so that when you get the geometry done post fitting, the car will handle like a dream
