Strange Rattle

Featured Replies

hello

After my fabia has been left over night ( so its completely cold) when the clutch is lifted to the bite position in neutral or in gear there is a loud metalic rattle. after a couple of miles / 5 mins idling the noise completely dissapears. even if the car has been left in works car park all day it doesnt make the noise . there is no clutch slip no crunching gears .

Any ideas?

Thanks Sam

bump?

I would have said thrust bearing as it's the only part that's really moving/changing when you operate the clutch.

I can't explain it going away after five minutes though.

thats the think if it was constant it could be clutch/ flywheel related .... but because it only does it when completely flat cold im not too sure :S

Flywheel getting stuck in a weird when engine turned off.

My dads bora does this sometimes due to lack of use once car been used is ok

After talking about this at work yesterday i topped up the gear box oil and it has 99% cured the problem. looks like the gearbox was chattering on start up as it possibly wasnt getting sufficient oil when cold.
