Erratic faulty bulb indicator

Featured Replies

Hi

Has anyone seen this happen ?

The broken lamp indicator on dashboard illuminated several days ago, I checked around the car and the front nearside DRL lamp was not working. Seemed reasonable as car is 18 months old. I decided to fix it at the weekend as had not pulled the fog light assembly apart before. More than 2 days of driving later the broken lamp indicator no longer illuminated and the DRL lamp is working again.

Any ideas ?

I'm struggling to understand & have read the post two ways:

Scenario 1 - The bulb out warning light illuminated, you found the faulty lamp, fixed it and now the warning lamp is not illuminated. What is the issue?

Scenario 2 - The bulb out warning light illuminated, you found the faulty lamp, decided to wait before replacing it but in the meantime the light has since started working again and the warning light is no longer illuminated. Loose or faulty/corroded connection to the DRL.

Either way, the indicator lamp will only illuminate if the relevant "bulb" is not working. Sounds like the indicator is working fine to me.

I read it as scenario 2.

And sounds like dodgy connection possibly damp/corroded etc as per post above.

Still worth checking properly, as it will more than likely come back again.

Corroded or dodgy connection do not fix themselves for long ;)

I had a similar issue with my number plate lights, it was solved by checking and cleaning the bulb connections.

It's probably the drl bulb. If it's those small push in ones they don't last long/easily fail.

It was scenario 2 with a regular PY21W DRL bulb.

I guess it may have been a damp connection, but anyway it is back in operation now. Thanks for your thoughts

I had the same on my FL Octy & I too thought it had sorted itself, but eventually warning again. Took out the bulb & the base contact fell off due to corrosion. Easy & cheap to replace.

I keep getting intermittent lamp fault indicator...but no visible bulb blown.

Will have to check drl ... I thought these were sealed leds... Learn something every day!

The other week I had the bulb failure light come on but then go off again about 5 minutes later.  I stopped and checked all bulbs, everything worked, been fine since.  My car is pre FL so no DRLs

Anyone know if there is a bulb socket that can replace the old one with better quality and connection between the socket and DRL bulb?

I read somewhere that is possible to replace with some longlife bulbs and new socket that solve the issue with the standard socket that prone to corrode.

Try these, you can upgrade to LED's at the same time...

A few days ago the bulb warning light came on. The indicator warning lights were flashing faster than usual on both sides. I could not see that any indicator bulb had failed- including the mirror repeaters. And all other bulbs were OK  afaik. After a couple of engine restarts the problem stopped and has not recurred in 5 days. None the wiser where the actual problem is.
