Want to move back to something VAG based.

Featured Replies

Hey all,

So I purchased myself a Civic 2.2 I-ctdi, which while the refinement of the engine is great.... is not built like anything from the VAG group and so I'm wanting to go back to either Skoda/VW.

What I'd like to know from you guys is how reliable the PD 2.0 is compared to the 1.9. My budget doesn't really allow anything as new as the CR (Would have the value of my 08 civic plus a small amount to play with) and from the bit of research I've done the 2.0 seems to be a bit problematic in PD guise.

I've seen a 1.9 pd tdi at the local skoda dealership but its the 105 which I really feel would be lacking compared to what I'm now used to (140 in the civic).

Can any of you offer any advice please :)

Thanks

Can get some good power out of the 1.9 pd, and is lighter then the 2.0 counterpart. Might end up coming down to what your prefer to drive if you try them both, personally prefer the 1.9

1.9tdi seem to be the longest lived of any engine let alone in the VAG group- mine is on 140,000 miles and going very strongly. You should be able to pick up something with the CR engine for your budget i'd have thought, in 170 guise its brutal but not exactly frugal. Also plenty of tuning opportunities. Some report reliability issues with them but so far so good in the Passat- 90k and still a leviathan

Have a poke around, second hand wise there seem to be some great prices

One problem we have is that used car prices down here are somewhat higher than the rest of the country (like a lot of things).

Cars are indeed a damn sight more expensive down here than further up the line! A lot of things indeed, start with the water rates ;)
