HELP - bumper not fitting correctly!

Featured Replies

hi all, need a bit of help. the car has previously been in a frontender and somebody has done a cheap repair job, now they replaced parts from a classic octavia not vRS! so i assumed the incorrectly fitting bump was due to having the wrong bumper. so I sourced a vRS bumper and prep'd it in matt black. fitted today but still doesnt fit right. Am i mssing something or what is going wrong. any advice appreciated.

thanks in advance

its the same on both sides

There is very little adjustment to be done on the front bumper as you can only bolt up the sides to where the bracket sit's on the wing.

I suggest  possibly

1. The bumper has little lugs on it(you can see them at the top) so you have to make sure that you slide the bumper unto these when first fitting bumper. Very difficult to attempt to do after you have missed the guides.

2. The wing brackets that you bolt bumper to have been moved in the previous accident making fitment  not as good.

I thought about guides but there isnt anything on the wings for the bumper to attach to appart from the bolts, could it be that the guides are missing?

Bump

I'm sure that there is supposed to be a guide that the side clips into all of those slots on the top edge of the bumper, or at least is that bolt, that is visible in the first photo, supposed to be on the outside holding the bumper in place.

That's don't look like a bolt to me more like the nut that holds outer wing to inner wing.

no don't think guides are missing buddy i refer to the top of the bumper slots that should mate up with the wing slots. Something is preventing those and the bumper being flush with the wing. did you remove the lights and indicators and see if the bumper sit's better. seem to bulge out near the indicator..

The indicator looks somewhat wonky compared to the wing and headlight.  Do you know how much was repaired/replaced?

The wings dont have anything for thw bumper to clip / hold to , the only fix point is the 2 bolts each side. I havent removed the lights but they dont foul the bumper. However they also fit poor! I know the bumper and bonnet was replaced but everything else looks original, altough i did have to replace the nsf headlight buy also had to bend the slam pannel slightly in order for it to fit right! The nsf wing seems to be creased so that could be an explanation yet that is the better fitting side!

Would love to just replace all thw front pannels but ddont have the cash and seeing its recorded cat c dont think its financially worth it

yep i was thinking about that again and now remember mine did not clip in as such.

The 2 bolts holes either side seem the only locating areas. As they locate on the wing bracket , perhaps that wing bracket has been moved out from the front end knock and thus forcing the bumper side to protrude. Mine is slightly the same on one side where some numpty smacked into my wing. When I removed the bumper i tapped in that bracket to allow the bumper to sit better.

Other than that the actual bumper section could be deformed splaying outwards at the  top ?

Only other thought is your crash bar has been moved  and the ends of the bumper are being splayed out where the front sides touch and ampilfiying it round the sides

Oi, thanks for the advice. I will have to look into it further when I remove the bumper for painting. Thanks again
