Filling up desiel

Featured Replies

I noticed todaay as I was putting some desiel in, there was a little pool of fuel that dripped from the nozzle.  The small pool underneah the filler hole got smaller and I noticed there was like a small hole/valve (hard to describe) in the plastic trim round the fuel filler hole.  This is where the teaspoon full (or so of desiel) went.  Is this the purpose of this small hole?   Sorry if this seems a bad explination but I not sure how else to explain it

I believe this hole is normal. I have one in my Renault and it allows a fuel spill to drain away, usually into the wheel arch.

Thank you I did wonder, how clever is that !!!!

Good to know

I am reminded of a friend who "cured" the leaking windscreen on his Austin Mini by drilling a hole in the floor....

Most cars have a little drain hole. Usually drains away under the car.

I guess so it doesn't run down the car onto the wheel/brakes.

I wondered if it due to it being desiel as I think that is much messier on paintwork

I've seen it on petrol too. Not sure if it's as much to do with water draining away when washing or driving in rain as it is to do with fuel spillage. My last clio seemed to drain onto the tyre which didn't seem to be such a good design.
