Advise on lowering octy 4x4

Featured Replies

I've got a octy 4x4 1.8t I have fitted rs4 wheels but the car sits so high!!

What would be the best option for lowering?

H&h lowering springs

eBay coilover £200 budget

Or s3 oem set up?

I need a half decent ride as it's a day to day car with two children

Thanks

A lot of the usual answers don't work for you since the 4x4 isn't a vRS (so not low as standard) and has a different rear suspension to he usual dead trailing beam.

Also, from measurement (my Octy and a neighbour's Vw Bora) the Octy's not that high; it's just that the wheel to arch gaps are large.

I have lowered or changed the suspension on my 4 motion Golf, (similar to your OCTY) it really is easy and depending on your budget I would recommend GAZ GHA coil overs, I currently have the rears set nearly to the highest setting and the fronts still have 45mm of thread left on the strut for going lower.

The damping is adjustable and when set to a softer setting the ride is excellent, wind them up to a hard setting and it feels like you have welded the suspension solid.

In combination with 26mm front and 23mm rear anti roll bars the all round package is really good. After sales is also very good should the need arise to ask GAZ for assistance.

here is an idea of how low I am now and I am certain another 3" lower is easily achievable

Spax rsx coilover's on mine. Don't go as low as some of the cheap c**p but fully adjustable. Ride is ok but they're designed to be sporty so...

4x4 is meant to have a smaller arb on the back than the front (opposite to front wheel drive cars).

I still have the front struts off my 4 motion but the rear springs and were shot as were the shocks. You can have them if you want just buy rear S3 or V6 TT or 4 Motion springs for the rear and shocks.

I love those L&K alloys :) That's why I put them on my Fabia

Wish they did them in 17" though.  They do look nice on a Fabia too.

I concurr   I think they were only 16s for the 55 sidewall.

That's a nice looking Fabia.

ARB's from the Mk4 R32 golf which are a direct fit, lowering springs or coils if ur feeling flush BUT the most important one of all is the adjustable rear control arms. The oem ones will eventually snap and your rear tyres will ware like buggery on the inside.

I'd say a good quality set of springs and shocks and adjustable rear tie bars will be the best option.

I could of sworn I read some where the estate 4x4 has different springs from the saloon.

I've got the saloon, do u know if the s3 springs will fit?

Not sure but would find out the pt no from vagcat and see if their the same. If so I would say yes:)

saloon or estate will all have the same size springs as an S3, TT V6, 4 Motion Golf etc, the only difference will be spring rates, this is determined by coloured paint marks on the spring itself.

Thanks mate, so I guess the audi s3 springs will make the octy sit lower?

My 4 motion did sit lower than a standard Golf.

Here is a picture of the rear spring in situ. It is not sat down on the bottom bit but you can see how small the spring is and where I have the adjuster set to.
