Avon Ice Touring ST

Featured Replies

I know the winter tyre topic has been covered to death on here, so i won't go into great depth.

I wondered if anyone was running Avon Ice touring ST winter tyres on their Yeti.

I have ordered a set of winter wheels/tyres from Rainsworth, and they had either Avon at a reasonable price or a premium brand(cant remember make)

So i have ordered a set £499 all in, cant complain at that.

I have them --on their second winter this time and they are absolutely fine-- I prefer them to the standard Dunlops!

There's a lot of ahem! opinions on tyres which can be taken with a pinch of salt IMHO

Use a reputable brand is the only advice I would  give

I had a set prematurely age, only lasted one winter on our Fabia before the sidewalls started to develop lots of hairline cracks. Avon were very good mind and got the tyres back to the factory for inspection and organised a refund through mytres.

However once bitten and all that, I've switched to Uniroyal MS Plus 66 and so far they are proving not a bad cold wet weather tyre but yet to test in snow.

(Uniroyal Europe are part of the Continental group)

How disapointed I was to find that Skoda dealers Rainsworth were unable to obtain steel wheels for the Avon winter tyres i had ordered from them. It seems VW have them in stock but wouldnt release them to Skoda. Luckily they had a set of Continental TS 850's already made up so for an extra donation i had them.

Fitted this afternoon so now i am happy.

What Rainworth's really mean is " We have been lumbered with the Continentals so....................... Hello Sir, we just happen to have these in stock........"

Glad your pleased.

Pretty much all the reports I see rate the Contis very highly.  I see more favourable reviews of them from drivers and tyre /car sites /magazines  than ever the Avons. I have Dunlop winters but the Contis wouls be high on my wish list otherwise.

Yes the Continental winters seem to always come near the top or at the top of comparative tests, more so than some of the favourites often mentioned on this forum, I'm very pleased with mine now on their 3rd season.
