Fabia vRS Colombus sat nav retrofit

Featured Replies

Dear all,

Apologies for making this question my first post. My girlfriend has a 2010 Fabia vRS (green, black wheels, roof and mirrors). Last week she cracked the screen of the Amundsen sat nav, and badly. The unit still works, but it's busted looking. Dealer quoted her £400 for a repair, so she's decided to just keep it and live with the cracks.

I'd like to buy her one of the trick looking Columbus sat navs for Christmas. Dealer wanted £1,700 for one (which is way too expensive for me) so I'm looking at eBay. The thing is I don't want to buy it as as present, then find out on Christmas Day I can't fit it.

I've used the search engine on the forum and worked out ill need to attach a new GPS unit into the back of the dash somewhere - but is there anything I'm missing? Do I need any special tooling? Do I need any kind of adapter?

Thanks in advance for any help, advice, links anyone can give.

Cheers,

As you already have an Amundsen it will be a straight swap.  It fits fine.

I am also interested in this, does anyone know if the Swing, Amundsen and Columbus all use the same fascia adaptor?

Swing is same fascia adaptor.  4 torx screws under that to slide out the head unit.  If you already have a nav unit it is plug and play.

If you haven't you need to feed to GPS aerial to the back of the glovebox and magnetically mount it on the dash bar (unscrew and remove the top glovebox to access this).  You will then need VCDS to tell the car that it has SatNav so that the speed sensor works and it integrates with the maxidot.

Thanks JRW, already had the swing unit out for a poke around to see the fitting and am fortunate to have access to a man with a laptop and VCDS just wanted to confirm the fascia adaptor as the units different arrangements of buttons etc make them look as though they may have slightly different proportions.

Thanks JRW - much appreciated mate.

So the MFD won't talk to the Columbus and I need it activated by VCDS is that right? Would a dealer do this for me, or tell me to bugger off as I didn't buy the unit from them?

It's unlikely they'll do it. Best finding someone off here to do it. They use a different system and would likely be funny about it.

I have it and I'm in Staffordshire. Basically needs 77 navigation ticking in the installation list for 19 can gateway.

Thanks JRW - just re-reading your earlier post; as she's going from Amundsen sat nav does that mean we won't have to install a new GPS unit behind the dashboard?

i wouldn't have thought so. I would have thought the connector would be the same.
