Managed to lock my keys in the back

Featured Replies

Collected something from a client. Returned to locked car. Opened tailgate with fob. Put item in rear and accidently dropped keys there too. Pressed button on tailgate. Lid closed, locking keys inside. Had to ring OH and she had to drive 20 miles with the spare set.

If she hadn't been available, what would I have done?

Called the AA or RAC if you're a member or skoda assist I guess- the AA and RAC can normally 'magic' their way in....

I do worry about leaving the key in the boot by mistake! Glad someone was close to help.

Recently, the 'magic' seems to be cutting a 3" round hole in the glass and recovering the keys . I'm not sure they are allowed to break the glass anymore and insurance companies are fed up with paying for damaged doors.

There is a coding option on 2012 MY VW golfs

That the tailgate doesn't lock but it arms the alarm

So using the boot opener > open tailgate > shut (doesn't lock) but arms the alarm

I know this because my mate with his golf had this, and took it back as he thought it was a faulty lock

The tech checked other cars on the lot and they were the same, we looked at the coding and changed some numbers in the coding and now it locks

With my KESSY I cannot lock the fob in the boot, yes I can shut the boot but it will not lock. Have not "tried" leaving the fob inside the passenger cell yet.

It won't lock - rest assured I have tried it a few time s with my superb/kessy

Hubby managed to do this with his KESSY on his VW. Opened boot, put rucksack inside, shut boot. By the time he realised keys were inside rucksack, boot had auto locked! Roadside Assistance company came but said they couldn't do anything. Suggested we smash window or get spare key. We were on holiday at the time. Hubby ended up travelling home, whilst I stayed in caravan with our two year old. Hubby arrived back at caravan site approx 24 hours later with his spare key.
