Question please re BHP and gearbox ?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Just popped in from the Octavia I forum.

I lost my car a few days ago in a motorway pile up and getting the same proving nigh on impossible. I've looked at one Superb advertised as 130BHP, but only 5 speed box. My Octavia had 6 speed box.

A friend has told me that only 6 speed boxes were matched to 130bhp engines.

Is this correct, as I've just seen another superb advertised as 130bhp, but same 5 speed box.?

TIA

No difference between the 5 and 6 speed box regarding gearing.

I own a 5 speed 130bhp diesel superb, so yes they definitely exist... or I've not found 6th gear yet.

Really? I used to get 650 miles to my 55L tank in the Octy, mostly motorway driving, and looking for similar economy if possible.

What the friend was indicating was that it would not be a 130 bhp model, despite being advertised as that.

Is there a way to confirm with VCDS lite?

I have since put one reg into a car insurance site and that came up as 130.

Thanks for the reply. May be joining this forum soon then. :D

Cheers for that. I expect my friend was thinking only of Octys then.

My driving is fairly mixed, but mostly a-roads and I average around 49-50mpg, with a pretty similar range of 650 miles, though I believe the superb's tank is 60L so not quite as efficient as the Octavia, but that may be down to the fact I don't do many motorway miles currently

Thanks for that. I had a tendency to just stick it on cruise control as much as possible when on the motorway.

Difficult to compare Octy with Superb 1 - built on different platforms - the Superb is much bigger and heavier with consequences to fuel useage.

The Superb is a  lovely car - I'm on my 2nd - but you do need to look through this Forum to make sure the built-in problems have all been dealt with, and of course avoid the temptation of the 2.0 ltr  diesel..............

Thanks for that. I did see about the pollen filter and leakage. Strangely enough a car I looked at before going on holiday smelt damp inside.I was only looking at the 1.9 models as well. More research needed I think. :D
